Artist Scholarships

Thanks to generous donors, Watershed currently provides at least 25% of artists-in-residence with full or partial scholarships annually.

Watershed is committed to increasing that percentage and providing scholarships to more artists in order to keep up with demand for financial support, and to ensure that our residencies are filled with artists from diverse backgrounds and perspectives.

Support Watershed artists today with a gift to the scholarship fund.

Contributions to the Watershed Scholarship Fund provide support to talented resident artists at all stages of their careers through the following awards:

  • Full Awards, cover all residency fees and room and board charges along with a $100 credit toward material and kiln firing costs incurred through Watershed.
  • Partial Awards provide support to artists for up to 75% of the cost of a two-week residency session.

The Scholarship For Change

The Scholarship for Change supports an annual scholarship for artists whose work addresses or brings attention to contemporary social, cultural, or environmental issues and who use their practices to make positive changes in their communities.

This award was established in honor of Fran Rudoff to celebrate her incredible decade-long tenure as Watershed’s Executive Director. Funding for this vital award is ongoing. Your support will ensure this scholarship will be awarded to deserving artists for years to come.

The Zenobia Fund

The Zenobia Fund currently provides full residency scholarships awards for talented artists of color to participate in Watershed programs. This award was established by artist Simone Leigh in 2017.

Watershed welcomes gifts of any size to the Zenobia Fund. Donors who give $500 or more are recognized as part of the Patrons Circle and receive a special acknowledgment for giving at this level; and those who make a gift of $2,500 or more are acknowledged as Kiln God Donors for their support of a full scholarship award.

Named Scholarship Awards

Named Scholarship Endowments

Establish a named scholarship endowment with a gift of $40,000 and provide Watershed with annual revenue indefinitely. Endowment funds are invested permanently and the income generated by the fund annually supports a full residency scholarship for a Watershed artist. Donations may be spread over multiple years.

Named Full Scholarship Awards

Named Scholarship Award Donors make a 5 year commitment to support an annual full scholarship award. Gifts of $2,500 may be made annually or lump sum ($12,500) and support a named award beginning the year after the initial donation is made. These scholarships provide full tuition, room and board, and a material and firing credit for one artist to attend a two-week session each year for five years. Preferences for specificity concerning awardees can be discussed with staff.
