Kiln Rental Policy

The kiln renter is responsible for the care and maintenance of kilns while under their supervision. This responsibility includes, but is not limited to:

  • Appropriate usage of kilns and kiln furniture
  • Cleaning up after use and returning equipment and furniture in its original condition to the proper spot
  • Scraping and washing kiln shelves as needed
  • Completing kiln inspection with studio staff  before and after use
  • Recording firing temperatures, times, and type
  • Reporting any damage or issues  to the Studio Manager immediately

The kiln renter is also responsible for any damage (beyond normal wear and tear) to Watershed’s kilns and equipment during the rental period. This includes, but is not limited to, the kilns themselves (e.g., soft bricks, lids, computers, thermocouples, elements), kiln furniture (e.g., shelves, posts), and kiln accessories (e.g., wash, scrapers, soda sprayers, gloves, safety glasses). Watershed staff will assess any equipment damage, and the kiln renter will be liable for payment for any repairs or replacements.

Watershed reserves the right to deny access to the equipment if these rules are not followed.
