Wayne Higby’s work as an artist encompasses much more than just creating his own pieces. As a curator and teacher at Alfred University, he is deeply committed to supporting younger artists and their creative journeys. By mentoring students, Higby serves as a witness to their processes and helps them contextualize their work within the rich lineage of ceramics.
During this conversation with Julie Burstein, Higby welcomes us into the intimate details of his creative practice. He shares the inspirations for some of his earlier works and reflects on a time filled with loss and transformation when he was making his monumental installation, EarthCloud.
